Lecture

The usual idea of Tropical African art as a closed, separate phenomenon from the entire history of world art is not quite true. In this lecture we will talk about how intensive cultural contacts and the exchange of objects and ideas between sub-Saharan Africa and the rest of the world have been. We will learn how Senegalese traders and Catholic Madonnas from the monasteries of France were connected, who was the largest supplier of gold to European courts, and we will also talk about the phenomenon of Afrofuturism.
Lecturer: Daria Vanyukova, Candidate of Art History, Senior Researcher at the State Museum of Oriental Art.
