In the performance ‘Quiet Water’ the artist Abyants Lisa examines her habit of loudly stirring sugar in a glass from an audio-visual perspective. The habit does not conform to the norms of etiquette established within a particular cultural practice. It is said that if Lisa does not retrain herself, she will not be married.
Lisa refuses outside advice and gives birth to a dance and music out of the ordinary act of stirring, which becomes a ritual for her to return to herself. Attention to such a small detail, which they wanted to strangle, and its defence, gives the action a new reading. It acquires other qualities: it is no longer just stirring sugar in a glass, but movements – of bodies and sounds.
