Almond Chu is a Chinese photographer and artist from Hong Kong known for his black and white photographs and large format conceptual works in colour.
In 1983 he travelled to Tokyo where he studied photography and fine art at the Tokyo College of Photography. During his studies in Japan, he not only pursued his artistic needs, but also learnt deeply the theory and practice of ‘simplicity’.
In 1993 he was awarded the Agfa Fellowship Young Photographer Award by Asian Culture Council and interned in New York. The same year he opened his own studio in Hong Kong and began working on artistic and commercial projects.
In the late 2000s, Almond was known for his black and white photographs without computer processing. In the following years, he started his conceptual series ‘Parade’, in which he applied digital techniques to edit the photograph and speed up his project work, and to create an unreal phenomenon.
His exhibitions have been held in various countries such as Germany, Italy, Denmark, Canada, Russia, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand.
