«Cherkashins. Performance of Perestroika» is a documentary film about a series of performances by artists Natasha and Valera Chekashin, which they conducted during a very difficult but interesting time for the country. At the break of two eras, in the early 90s, Cherkashins reflect the cultural and national code in their art. Through their work, they create new meanings, connecting the past and the present, and at the head of everything is love for the country, love for art and love for each other.
In addition to the central characters, artists Valera and Natasha Cherkashin, many artists and experts also take part in the film, in particular: art critic and curator Irina Gorlova, head of the department of the latest trends at the Russian Museum Alexander Borovsky, art critic and art historian Alexandra Shatskikh, TV presenter Sergey Sholokhov, artistic director of the Sergey Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art Anastasia Kuryokhina, photographer Alexander Tiagny-Riadno and others.
After the screening, the film will be discussed with the film’s director, Vladimir Sumashedov; artists Natasha and Valera Cherkashin; art historian, curator, journalist, correspondent of the art newspaper The Art Newspaper Russia, Maria Moskvicheva; Candidate of Art History, film critic, VGIK teacher, program director of The Art Film Festival Marina Toropygina.
