Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum together with Centre of Visual Culture Beton (Moscow) will open the exhibition ‘Deity’s Likeness’ in the modern cultural centre ‘Pakgauzy’.

The exposition will include more than 70 works of digital art.

Olga Michi is a contemporary artist and photographer, a vivid representative of the digital art direction, the author of conceptual film projects. Olga Michi’s works touch upon a wide range of topics and are devoted to both topical problems of modern life and deep philosophical issues. All her artistic projects are based on photographic images, which go through many stages of creative, conceptual and technical processing to become finished works of art.

The works of the project ‘Deity’s Likeness’ invite us to reflect on what a ‘deity’ or ‘idol’ is in a historical context, and how its representation is transformed by socio-cultural changes. The unifying theme is the image of the mask, which has many literal and metaphorical functions.

The project uses photographic images of actual artefacts, whether national primitive art, or products of modern industrial production. These images are subjected to considerable creative reworking, both in terms of colour and their combination with computer-generated special effects.

The author uses the technology of photo printing, with the application of dibond and plastification of works – which gives the works an additional effect of volume and depth. All visitors will have an opportunity to be in the augmented reality by scanning QR codes placed in the exposition.

The artefacts, which served as prototypes of the photographic works of the project, will also be presented at the exhibition.

The artist started working on the creation of the project in 2019 before the Covid-19 global pandemic.

In 2021, Olga Michi’s project was successfully presented at the State Hermitage Museum (St Petersburg); in 2022, it was introduced to residents of Yekaterinburg, Kazan and Novosibirsk.
