PHOTOGRAPHER IS KNOWN AS ONE OF THE LEADING AUTHORS OF THE GENRE "ARCHITECTURAL LANDSCAPE" WHICH COMBINES THE FORMS OF NATURAL OBJECTS AND WORKS OF HUMAN LABOR.

Biography

He was born in 1941 in Moscow.
He first picked up a camera in 1959. 
In 1963 he made his first exhibition picture "In the mountains of the Verkhovye".
In 1964 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Engineers of Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography as a major in Geodesy Engineer. 
In 1966 became a member of ‘Novator’ photo club. 
With his expeditions he toured almost the whole territory of the Soviet Union. 
Cooperated with many newspapers and magazines as a freelance photographer. 
He took pictures in all genres, but landscape was and still is his favorite; in capturing landscapes he developed his own individual photographic style. 
His photographs of the Pamir Mountains, Tien Shan, Caucasus, Kamchatka, as well as Svaneti, Ingushetia, the Arctic and the Russian North have become paradigmatic. 
In 1989 - member of the Union of Photo Artists of the USSR, since 1992 - member of the Russian Union of Photo Artists. 
In 1994 he turned from amateur photographers to professionals and simultaneously from black-and-white to color photography. 
Vasiliev is a pioneer in many fields of creative photography. He was one of the first (or maybe the first, back in the 1970s) to use aerial photography to create creative works. In the field of color photography, he was the first to shoot night landscapes with a light brush. In the laboratory he was the first to use the "wet print" method, a technology that could not be reproduced by a computer. 
Author of more than twenty articles on photography and a textbook "Artistic Photography: From Conception to Realization". 
A winner of numerous diplomas and medals, among which is the first-degree diploma for the series "North Pole!" at the International Exhibition "Man and World", the silver medal "Inter-pressphoto-83", three gold medals of all-union amateur photo contests, diploma of the International Photo Salon in Rochester (USA), diplomas of Oveskon, Ilford, Epson, diplomas at the annual exhibitions "Master" of the Guild of Advertising Photographers, and many others. His works are kept in museums and private collections in Russia and the USA.
He passed away in 2021.
