The idea of the project "Global Underground" is to show the cultural features of the underground transport systems of different countries and cities, as well as to make possible a virtual movement on the "global subway system", with visits to the most striking and characteristic stations of 33 countries.

In the age of globalization and free movement of people, we want to express in visual and video images the features of each underground transport system, in which, as in a drop of water, reflect the features of the cultures of different countries.

In each country, the subway is an indicator of the technical level of the era and the culture of the country at the time of its creation. At the same time, each city creates its own specific atmosphere in the subway, its cultural layer, its design of the subway, and subway passengers are typical residents of the city.

Already about 100 works from 24 countries have been made. The work on the project continues.

Artists Valera and Natasha Cherkashin have been working together since 1983. They worked with cultures of USSR and Russia, USA, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Japan, Mongolia, China, France, Italy and many other countries. They made more than 180 solo exhibitions and 270 performances and events. More than 70 TV programs were made about them, including CNN, Deutsche Welle, Italian Super Channel, Russian TV, etc., and more than 250 publications, including the Washington Post, Art+Auction, Art Forum, Stern Magazine and others. Their works are in more than 30 major museum and corporate collections in the U.S., Russia and other countries.
