On September 7th, the Center of visual culture «Béton» hosted the opening of the exhibition «Future dwelling». The exhibition includes large-sized digital easel works, as well as art objects.

In their project, the creative group "GrOM" reflects on how the islands of civilization could look like, if the mankind will take them as they set out to conquer new worlds. The exhibition presents A. Chernyshev's objects and a work created by him together with A. Shulgin.

The exhibition consists of large-scale digital easel works that show spaces of various purposes, made in accordance with the traditions and stereotypes of the most widespread cultures. Beyond these interiors, we can see the areas of the worlds that humanity will have to incorporate into its own ecosystem.

While constructing their utopia, the GrOM group relied on the traditions of the famous Düsseldorf school of photography. An important role here is played by the emphasis not only on the detailing of texture, but also on the combination of real objects with fantastic elements. Some works are created with the help of artificial intelligence.

According to photographer and gallery owner Olga Michi, these objects have their own philosophy, their own cultural code: "The main direction of our Center is the study, promotion and development of photography. We want to present to the public a new look at photography and the processes taking place in it".

At the Béton CVC, photography is considered and, more importantly, studied as part of the cultural environment of society. The Center holds travelling exhibitions in museums and galleries in Russia and around the world, as well as organizes meetings with photographers. An important mission is to support and promote photographers. The Center is open for experiments, helps in organizing exhibitions, publishing scientific materials. This is also the place where everyone can buy works of the authors. Collectors of photography are assisted not only in the selection of works, but also given an evaluation of their historical and art history significance.

Our correspondent talked to the author, artist, media art pioneer of the presented installations Aristarkh Chernyshev and asked him to decipher several works presented at the exhibition.

"At the entrance to the CVC, all guests are greeted by a red curved ticker "Poetic Economy". The work is from 2005. It symbolizes Pushkin's lyrics transformed into stock exchange reports. An enlarged copy of this work is hanging and decorating the entrance of one of the Moscow City towers," says Aristarkh Chernyshev.

"The next work I called 'Still Life Against the Backdrop of Crisis'. It is a classic representative of its genre, in which only two symbols have been restored from the whole set of symbols: the skull, which is a symbol of death, and time, which signifies the fleeting nature of life. In the ticker are summaries of oil prices from the period when it began to be quoted on the stock market to 2018, when the work was done," the author shared.

"In the center of the hall we see a twisted iPhone consisting of three levels, and it is not accidental. The first volume is occupied by the legislative branch, the second - by the executive branch, and in the cylinder - the information branch. This work is called '3G International'," Aristarkh concludes.

"The Center of visual culture «Béton» is a platform for an open dialogue and meeting with art for all lovers and appreciators of any kind of culture and its realization," Olga Michi summarized.

During the period from September 8th through October 19th, anyone can dive into the "Future dwelling" and be transported a few centuries into the future.
