Almond Chu

Almond Chu (1962, Hong Kong) is a Hong Kong-born photographer. In his youth, he moved to Tokyo to study photography at the Tokyo College of Photography. Later, he returned to Hong Kong, where he opened his own studio in 1993. In the same year, Almond Chu was awarded the Asian Culture Council’s Young Photographer Award, and he went on to complete an internship in New York. In demand among collectors and galleries around the world, the photographer is now best known for his large-format conceptual series created using digital technology. One such series, titled «Parade» (2004-2015), features large-scale images of imaginary parades. The mass of people is composed of multiple repetitions of the artist’s own image. Exploring the phenomenon of parades, Almond Chu places the action in places with social and historical significance, such as government buildings or corporate structures like the Apple Store.
